Editorial: My cover spread for Minnesota Bride

I had the opportunity to style two of three covers and a spread within the Spring/Summer 2012 issue of local print glossy Minnesota Bride. Under the direction of the magazine's former editor Mary O'Regan (who recently relocated to Seattle), I styled looks that married bridal with a grunge/rocker feel - an unlikely combination, but I think it was a successful attempt. As an added bonus, I got to work with one of my favorite Twin Cities models, Vision Management Group's Ashlee Walker, who recently got signed by New York agency DNA.

Editorial: Alexandria Brouhard in "Cream of the Crop"

Ignite face-of-the-moment Alexandria Brouhard stars in this gorgeous editorial from the Spring 2012 issue of Minnesota Bride, photographed by the esteemed William Clark and styled by Hollie Mae Schultz. It's one of the final shoots creative directed by former Minnesota Bride editor Mary O'Regan, who recently departed to Seattle for an editorial position with Nordstrom. Her vision, eye and passion will be missed, but you can follow her adventures to come at her blog, artofwore.com.

Editorial: "Lady in Waiting" in Minnesota Bride

Bridal fashion shoots can tend to get a bit rote, which is why I rarely feature them on my blog. But a spread in the latest issue of Minnesota Bride is worth taking a look. Local stylist Grant Whittaker took bridal looks from international lines as well as local line Joynoelle and added over-the-top jewelry by local designer Stephanie Lake and black accents. In some shots, I think the effect works, but in others I wonder if all the extra black fabric makes the looks overworked and "too much" - and conceal the beautiful simplicity of the original bridal gowns. (Though I think the headpieces and jewelry pairings are fantastic.) Regardless, it's still good to see something a little bit outside of the box with a bridal fashion shoot.

Styling: Minnesota Bride shoot

Out this month on local newsstands is the spring/summer issue of Minnesota Bride, in which I styled a bridesmaid dress spread. Shot by William Clark, produced/creative directed by Mary O'Regan and modeled by Vision's Elle Williams with hair/makeup by Fatima Olive, I added in some local designs (floral hair accessories by Anna Lee's Ruby3, jewelry by Bionic Unicorn and a dress by Christopher Straub) and local accessories shop StyledLife, in addition to Neiman Marcus and various local bridal shops. This story should give hope to all those reluctant bridesmaids out there and serve as inspiration for newly engaged women. It is entirely possible to select cute, modern, re-wearable bridesmaid dresses.

Sneak Peek: Minnesota Bride shoot

Yesterday I had the privilege of styling a bridesmaid shoot for Tiger Oak Publications' Minnesota Bride. Under the direction of Fashion Editor Mary O'Regan, I selected bridesmaid dresses with a chic cocktail feel versus a more traditional look, and thanks to the amazing talent of photographer William Clark, Vision model Elle Williams, and the modern design of the aloft Hotel, the shoot was definitely more editorial and high fashion than one would expect. Here's a preview shot and recap courtesy of Mary's art of wore blog, featuring a dress from Christopher Straub's Spring 2011 collection.
