Emma Berg Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook: "The Midnight Garden"

On the heels of HAUS Salon debuting their Fall/Winter 2011 hair collection come additional images - in full color, all the better to showcase the intense hues of Emma Berg's Spring/Summer 2012 collection, "The Midnight Garden," featured in the shoot. The Midnight Garden Capsule Collection was created specifically for "Dress Rehearsal," an event to benefit the Boys & Girls Club in the Twin Cities, and is said to be inspired by the energetic members of the North Boys & Girls Club. "The entire collection is as varied as the singing flowers in Alice in Wonderland with a vast array of silhouettes, textures and colors," Berg says on her website.

Editorial: HAUS Salon's "Spectre" fall/winter 2011 collection

After last weekend's unveiling of their Fall/Winter collection, "Spectre," HAUS Salon has published the photos online. (I posted a preview of some of the images in an earlier post.) Inspired by Alexander McQueen, the images tell a haunting, ethereal, ghostly story with luscious textures and cool, modern lines. It also doubles as a lookbook for local designer Emma Berg's Spring 2012 collection, which debuted at last August's Boys & Girls Club of Minneapolis benefit fashion show, "Dress Rehearsal." The salon also posted a great little behind-the-scenes video with commentary from HAUS co-owner and creative director Charlie Brackney. It's all the more proof of why HAUS is a step above almost any salon in the Twin Cities.

Editorial: HAUS Salon debuts Fall/Winter Collection

In its relatively short lifespan, Twin Cities salon HAUS has shown itself to not only be the go-to destination for the chic Minneapolitan's hair care needs; it's also proven itself to be an establishment well versed in the art of hair. In addition to its runway work (namely for the Emma Berg/Kevin Kramp runway shows last spring at MNfashion Week), the salon has promised two seasonal hair inspiration collections each year. Under the direction of salon co-owner and creative director Charlie Brackney (a former creative director at Juut SalonSpa), the Fall/Winter 2011-12 editorial "Spectre" collection (styled with clothing by local designer Emma Berg on Vision models) is described by the press release as "a romantic ghost story with hair and makeup looks that are billowing, ethereal, and smoky, with deep shadows, taking inspiration from the spirit of fashionicon Alexander McQueen."

As the press release explains, "HAUS Salon’s Spectre Collection is a couture collection, with looks not typically seen walking down the streets of Minneapolis. 'We want HAUS's legacy to be about our incredible team, a team capable of creating dream-worthy hair on set and behind the chair,' said Charlie Brackney, HAUS Co-Founder and Creative Director. 'By staying inspired as a team and stretching our creative talents, we stay inspired for our clients and again and again give them the best hair that they possibly can have.'"

Local fashion designer Emma Berg and jewelry designer Stephanie Lake have joined forces for a benefit fashion show on August 19, "Dress Rehearsal." The show serves as the kick-off preview party for this fall's Boys & Girls Club Benefit, Twin Cities Treasures. This exclusive cocktail party and fundraiser will feature 2011's treasures in fashion, music, photography, and film. Held at national BGC board member Jane Emison's 1930s estate, Hillswood - French Chateau referred to as the "Marie Antoinette" by its architect - this event will raise money for the purchase of art supplies and musical instruments for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities. HAUS Salon debuts its premier, muse-inspired collection

South Minneapolis is the home to HAUS Salon, a new endeavor by industry experts Charlie Brackney and Jessica Reipke. After acting as creative director for world-renowned Juut Salonspa for several years and as a member of the exclusive style team of legendary hairstylist Vivienne Mackinder, Brackney is now launching a series of "collections" of inspirational haircuts and colors that are on-trend and forward-thinking, with a new collection to drop every six months. The first collection, "Muse," is named for "the people who inspire us most: our clients," Brackney says.

Short hair gets an architectural twist and a dip into the daring hair color of the moment, gunmetal gray, in the "Lindsay."

Emma Berg design featured on CBS Local

CBS Local just featured a spring/summer 2011 dress by local designer Emma Berg in an article on the best summer dresses. The gorgeous image featured is from Emma's recent lookbook shoot in collaboration with HAUS Salon, photographer Emily Utne, modeled by Elle Williams of Vision, and styling by yours truly. (Look for the full lookbook to be published soon.)


Local designer Emma Berg’s white and red halter dress showcased two of this season’s biggest trends: white color and flowy fabric. Top designers like Emilio Pucci, D&G and Alberta Ferretti floated flowy, effortless gowns down the runway. Emma Berg put her own spin on these trends, using silk crinkled chiffon and adding a splash of color with a red ribbon waist and red lace guipure back and neck detail. Recap: HAUS Salon grand opening

On Saturday, I attended the grand opening for hairstylist Charlie Brackney's new South Minneapolis salon, HAUS, and it was quite the decadent affair. Vision models dressed by salon curator Emma Berg and styled by HAUS served desserts, and guests included jewelry designer Stephanie Lake, Kate Iverson of Permanent Art & Design Group and l'etoile magazine (who put together the opening with Robyn Lewis and Permanent's Joe Belk), stylist and style writer Jane Belfry, and filmmaker Elijah Chhum. The event, which doubled as a Drew Peterson art opening, showcased the amazing custom interiors by local interior designer Jonathan Gomez Whitney, who was recommended to the salon by Emma Berg (whose kitchen has been designed by Whitney). Mary O'Regan of METRO Magazine was there and took some fantastic photos. Here is a sampling; click here for more.
