Target darlings The Duke Spirit @ Triple Rock tonight

The Duke Spirit

In between appearances on Last Call with Carson Daly and SXSW, UK band The Duke Spirit decided to make a last-minute stop in Minneapolis tonight at the Triple Rock Social Club. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Minneapolis is home to Target HQ, as the band has an ongoing tie-in with the new McQ Alexander McQueen for Target line. After the McQueen team approached lead singer Liela Moss about the partnership, for which the designer claimed Moss as muse, the band provided a song for the TV commercial and released an exclusive-to-Target compilation CD. The CD includes selections from the band's previous releases and a cover of Alex Chilton’s "Baby Doll" (the song featured on the McQ commercial). Well before the Target promotion, the band had already gained a following for its catchy-as-Blondie, gritty-as-Sonic Youth sound. It’s nothing that hasn’t been done before, but the group sets itself apart with its dark lyrics, murky blues-rock, and Moss' Bjork-meets-Nico vocals. First Communion Afterparty open. (8 p.m. Mon. $10-12. 18 and older. Triple Rock Social Club, 629 Cedar Av., Mpls. 612-333-7399.)

Moss is known for her edgy style and Nico-esque looks; it's no wonder she's often cited as an inspiration by designers and stylists. Some examples of Moss' style:

A great Q&A with Liela Moss on her personal style is up at Refinery 29.
